What You Will Need:

Pack of Goody Fabric Covered Headbands, Package of desired hot-fix crystals, Bejeweler, fabric flowers, hot glue gun. You can find great fabric headbands at Target, CVS, local drugstores and even your grocery store!

If you are using a plastic or metal headband you will need about ½ yard of 1/8 – ¼ inch ribbon to wrap it and ¼” fabric tape to cover the ends

1)      If you are starting with a fabric headband skip to step 2. If you are using a plastic of metal band you will need to wrap it. Begin by hot gluing the ribbon end to the inside tip of the band. Let dry and then tightly wrap the band creating a slight overlap with the ribbon. When you reach the opposite end of the band hot glue the ribbon to the inside. Let it dry completely then take your ¼ “ fabric tape and wrap the tips. You might want to double wrap here for comfort.

2)      Alright let’s start embellishing! I like to start by hot gluing a few fabric flowers on to the top side. You want to avoid placing any flowers directly in the center of you headband because of the mini mouse effect. I found some great little flowers at Michaels in the discount section.

3)      Get your Bejeweler revving! I prefer to use a variety of sizes in the same color scheme when decorating a headband. Such as Clear and Aurora Boreal  Swarovski crystal. I Also tend to stick with the sizes 10ss, 16ss and 20ss (3mm, 4mm and 5mm). If you go much smaller you risk going blind trying to find the crystal and any larger would seem garish and out of place on a dainty headband. I you are lucky enough to have two Bejewelers, I turn them both on with different sized tips to help speed up the process.

4)      Please see below for Bejeweler tips. I first place a few of the smaller crystals on to the flower petals. It gives the band more depth and looks like beautiful dew drops! Then I follow suit and apply the rest of the crystals along the band in a scattered affect. Avoid placing the crystals to low because they will just be hidden behind your ears or hair and might rub against your ears causing discomfort.

5)      And presto! You have a beautiful crystal embellished headband! Make sure to always check the security of the crystals, flowers and ribbon if you wrapped the band. If applied correctly theses little suckers will last a long time.

Bejeweler Tips

  • Before you plug in your Bejeweler, choose the correct size tip to match the rhinestone you are using. Tips are etched on the side with the size number. If in doubt, place the tip over the rhinestone. It should pick up the rhinestone.
  • Gently screw the tip into the end of the Bejeweler.
  • Prepare your work surfaces and, if applying to fabric, use a firm, flat surface. For sheer fabrics, place a PTFE sheet under the fabric or between layers or the rhinestone may bond the surfaces together.
  • Allow the Bejeweler to heat for 3 – 5 minutes.
  • Place the rhinestones (face up) on a flat, hard surface. Gently place the tip over the rhinestone – do not push down. The tip will pick up the rhinestone for you.
  • Allow the heat to melt the glue on the back of the rhinestone – the glue will begin to look wet. Small stones take very little time – larger stones will require more time.

Place the rhinestone onto the surface of your item and immediately lift the tip up. The tip of the tool should not be held onto the surface of the item. Turn the tip of the tool to the side and gently press the crystal down to make certain it is tightly adhered to the surface.
